Secretary Treasurer
Wilfredo “Fig” Figueroa
With 20 years of service Fig has seen the plight of his fellow coworkers under postal management’s rule--the injustices suffered at the hands of supervisors and managers who have no idea of how to run a business let alone how to treat employees.
Fig took up the challenge of becoming a shop steward in 1997 to fight management on behalf of his coworkers whenever management blatantly violated the CBA. He didn’t stop there; he trained and studied to become an Arbitration Advocate. Now Fig could take management to the one place where he could make them pay for their transgressions against postal workers--arbitration. As an Arbitration Advocate Fig helped employees get their jobs back when management put them up for removals on frivolous and often times false charges.
In 2003 he was elected as the Assistant Director for NY Metro Union under the “Power to the Workers” slate for the Morgan P&DC. Fig continued to fight for the rights of his coworkers. He filed grievances and won significant victories for light and limited duty employees and against over-drafting on holidays, making management pay those employees that were sent home unnecessarily or out of schedule pay for those who were drafted on a holiday when they were not needed.
Now as the Treasurer for NY Metro Union he brings that same focus and dedication he’s shown to the finances of the union. Again studying and taking the Secretary training seminars taught by the APWU and learning the QuickBooks accountant applications he makes certain that the union finances are in order and that all monies are properly dispensed and allocated to and from NY Metro Area Postal Union.

I fight for the causes I truly believe in. I fight for you, me and for those who will be here when we’re just a memory. I can only ask that those who know me continue to trust and support this administration so we can continue to fight for postal workers’ rights. For those that I have not yet met, please know that we are now … and always on your side!

If we do nothing but sit on the sidelines management would ultimately win the battle to destroy this union. This union has a history of fighting for decades to protect the rights of postal workers. This union has enabled us to earn a decent salary and gain the necessary benefits to raise our families. These accomplishments, in the face of ongoing struggle, will be the legacy we leave behind to those who will follow. They will have the means to protect what we have gained and the ability and foresight to meet all future challenges.
